"H.S. "Moldelectrica" informs the public about the fact that it was notified by SA Energocom that for the day 29.11.2022 the entire forecasted amount of electricity consumption was not contracted, thus a deficit of about 74% was anticipated", announces Î.S . "Moldelectrica".

According to the state enterprise, the anticipated shortfall would be covered by the emergency energy supply contract.

"Confirmation of availability has already been received from the OST of the neighbouring state (Romania)," the cited source also announces.

Immediately after the announcement, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, made certain comments on the subject in a television show. According to the official, the situation was created because the price of electricity increased by up to 40% on the European markets, and Energocom was unable to purchase the necessary volume. As a result, our country will buy electricity based on the breakdown contract in Romania. However, the deputy prime minister did not provide details about the purchase price.

According to a press release issued by "Energocom", the weighted average price for 1 MWh of electricity purchased from the Romanian stock market for a month was 231 euros. The quoted source states that since the Republic of Moldova started buying electricity from OPCOM, the company has purchased electricity for a month in a total amount of 51.6 million euros.

These daily purchases, according to "Energocom", constitute 2/3 of the needs of the Republic of Moldova, being also the most expensive purchases in the field.
