Moldova Gets €5.4 Million for Waste Management

The Republic of Moldova is set to receive a grant of €5.4 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The funds will be directed towards infrastructure development projects in the districts of Briceni, Ocnița, Edineț, and Dondușeni, with a specific focus on solid waste management. The Moldovan Government is expected to approve the Grant Agreement today.

Out of the total EBRD allocation, a little over €4 million will be earmarked for the design and construction of a landfill, sorting station, and composting facility in the town of Dondușeni. Meanwhile, transfer stations will be built in the towns of Briceni and Edineț. The remaining €1.36 million will be used to procure equipment for waste transfer, treatment, and disposal.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet of Ministers is poised to approve the establishment of the "Public Roads Register" information system. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, this initiative aims to create a more comprehensive record of the country's road network. The system is also expected to streamline investment forecasting and planning, while facilitating the prioritisation of roadworks.

The Government will also consider a resolution that proposes the free transfer of arms, ammunition, military equipment, related technologies, and services to the Ministry of Defense. Currently, these confiscated goods are registered with various government agencies, including the State Fiscal Service, the Customs Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Security and Intelligence Service.

Furthermore, the Cabinet of Ministers will approve a series of resolutions on cross-border cooperation in consumer protection, the adjustment of the regulatory framework for market surveillance, and amendments to existing legislation concerning plant variety protection, viticulture and winemaking, and seeds.

In total, based on the preliminary agenda, the Government is scheduled to examine thirteen draft resolutions.
