President Sandu's Call for Peace: Easter of the Ancestors Message

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has issued a formal message for Orthodox Christians observing the Easter of the Ancestors, emphasising prayers for peace.

In her communication, the head of state underscores the significance of this celebration as an opportunity to invoke prayers for peace within the nation and in the depths of our souls.

"On the Easter of the Ancestors, we humbly return to our homeland to pay homage to the memory of our departed loved ones. It also presents an occasion to reunite with cherished ones we seldom see, extend our wishes for their well-being, and collectively pray for tranquillity within our country and our spirits," wrote President Maia Sandu on social media platforms.

It is noteworthy that Orthodox Christians in the Republic of Moldova commemorate the Easter of the Ancestors today, May 12, and tomorrow, May 13. These days are officially designated as holidays, prompting Moldovans to visit cemeteries to honour the memory of their deceased relatives. Bishop of Soroca, Ioan Moșneguțu, has encouraged those attending the cemeteries during this period to maintain cleanliness and refrain from organising memorial gatherings near the graves. In the capital city and various regions of the Republic of Moldova, authorities facilitate complimentary transportation to cemeteries during the Easter of the Ancestors. This year, in Chișinău, complimentary transportation services are available for passengers on bus routes no. 27, "C", and "D". The Municipal Public Transportation Department will operate under special conditions, as announced by the Chișinău City Hall. The number of buses operating on routes no. 10, 26, and 28 will be adjusted based on demand.
