Boost for Security Zone: Moldova Approves Projects
Within the Security Zone, Moldova is undertaking 26 projects with a total value of 13 million lei.
These initiatives are part of the country's 2024 Reintegration Activities Program, approved by the government today.
The program focuses on modernising educational institutions that provide instruction in the Romanian language. It also includes plans to repair and equip administrative buildings, cultural and sports institutions, and develop recreational areas.
Several institutions will benefit from this program. These include the Ștefan cel Mare gymnasium in Molovata village, Dubăsari district (electrical network renovation), the Alexei Mateevici high school in Sănătăuca village, Florești district (gymnasium renovation), the Ustia gymnasium in Dubăsari district (gymnasium and sports field renovation), and others. Additionally, several schools will receive one-time financial assistance to cover maintenance costs.
Furthermore, the program encompasses the modernization of several kindergartens. Planned measures include thermal insulation of buildings, repair of heating systems, and renovation of sports fields and playgrounds. The Center for the Elderly in Varnița village, Anenii Noi district, and the House of Culture building in Puhăceni village, Anenii Noi district, will also be rehabilitated.
To offset the expenses borne by the owners of agricultural land situated beyond the Râbnița-Tiraspol route, due to the fees imposed at the checkpoints, 2 million lei have been allocated. The Dubăsari District Council will distribute these funds according to a regulation established in a transparent and equitable manner.
It is worth noting that the Tiraspol regime imposed illegal taxes on farmers in Dubăsari in January. This action was a response to the entry into force of the new Moldovan Customs Code, which requires economic agents from the left bank of the Nistru River to pay customs duties to the state budget, as do all companies in the country. Subsequently, the Chișinău authorities pledged to compensate the farmers for the incurred expenses.
Between 2011 and 2023, Moldova implemented 13 government programs for the country's reintegration. These programs allocated funding for 544 projects, exceeding 170 million lei in total value. Their objective was to address pressing issues within the Security Zone, promote sustainable community development, and ultimately achieve the goal of national reintegration.
