Czech Republic Aids Moldova’s EU Accession Preparation

The Czech Republic will assist the Parliament of Chișinău in the preparation process for the official launch of accession negotiations, stated the President of the Legislature, Igor Grosu, during a joint conference with the President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, who is on a visit to Chișinău.

Other subjects discussed included regional security, combating Russian propaganda targeting both countries, and the negative effects of the war in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova, added Igor Grosu.

"We will be assisted in the process of preparing the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for launching the negotiations. We also exchanged opinions on the tactics and strategies of Russian Federation interference against our countries, specifically hybrid influences, disinformation campaigns, attempts to corrupt voters and politicians, and how we can better respond to these hybrid attacks through cooperation," declared Igor Grosu.

In turn, the President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, appreciated the significant progress the Republic of Moldova has made in the accession process to the European Union and assured us that Czechia will support our country on the path to European integration.

"Twenty years ago, a very courageous decision was made by the member countries of the European Union at that time. In a single day, the number of member countries in the community bloc nearly doubled from 15 to 25. I am personally convinced that in the coming period, we should be able to adopt such a courageous decision to accept more countries into the European Union, and one of these, in my opinion, is the Republic of Moldova," mentioned Miloš Vystrčil.

One year ago, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, during his visit to Chișinău, promised that his country would continue to offer support to the Republic of Moldova in various fields, including defence and security. Thus, in August, a military attaché office of Czechia was inaugurated in our country to deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of defence. The Republic of Moldova has benefited from over 50 projects funded by Czechia, worth 14 million euros.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic were established on June 1, 1992.
