Moldova appoints new NBM leadership for seven-year terms
Petru Rotaru has been appointed First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), while Mihnea Constantinescu has been appointed Deputy Governor.

Both officials will serve seven-year terms following their approval by Parliament in the February 6 session. Petru Rotaru, the current Deputy
Governor of the NBM, will now assume the role of First Deputy Governor and Vice President of both the Supervisory Board and the Executive Committee. Over the course of his career, he has held key positions, including Minister of Finance, Director of the State Tax Service, and member of the Court of Accounts. Rotaru brings extensive experience in the financial sector and private industry.
Mihnea Constantinescu, a Romanian national, has been appointed Deputy Governor of the NBM and member of the Executive Committee. He was granted Moldovan citizenship through a legal exemption in December 2024. Currently, he serves as an advisor to NBM Governor Anca-Dana Dragu. Constantinescu has significant expertise in central banking, having worked as Head of Research at the National Bank of Ukraine from 2019 to 2024 and previously at the Bank of Lithuania from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, he has taught and conducted research at universities in Amsterdam, Zurich, and New York.
