Chisinau discusses expanding collaboration to combat crime in the Munich Security Conference
The security of the borders and communities of the Republic of Moldova, the intensification of collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and INTERPOL, as well as the country's European integration, were the main topics addressed by the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) during bilateral meetings with officials from Germany, the Netherlands and INTERPOL. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

According to a statement from the MAI, the delegation of our country discussed with the Deputy Secretary General of INTERPOL, Valdecy Urquiza, the expansion of information exchange and the implementation of advanced technological solutions for the identification and prevention of security threats. The officials also discussed the possibility of seconding Moldovan liaison officers to INTERPOL to facilitate the coordination of investigations and rapid interventions in cases of organized crime and terrorism.
During the meetings with Hans-Georg Engelke, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany, and with the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, the topic of increased cooperation in securing borders, combating illegal migration and preventing hybrid threats was discussed.
Another priority topic was cybersecurity, addressed during the meeting with David van Weel, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Netherlands. The officials discussed the support provided by the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the EU Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), as well as the creation of an operational center for rapid response to cyber incidents and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Another topic discussed was the promotion of the European digital identity, "a strategic project that will allow the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the digital ecosystem of the European Union, facilitating citizens' access to modern and secure services," reads the cited source.
Also, the Ministry of Interior reiterates that by strengthening relations with international partners, the Republic of Moldova is boosting its efforts to modernize security structures and protect its citizens.
We remind you that President Maia Sandu, Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi, as well as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi attended the 61st edition of the Munich Security Conference, held on February 14-15.
The Munich Security Conference is one of the most prestigious international forums dedicated to global security and brings together over 50 heads of state and government and more than 100 ministers of foreign affairs and defense.
