As of May 1, 2025, pensions will be increased for people with at least 40 years of contribution history
People with at least 40 years of contribution will receive increased pensions of up to 3,300 lei. The government gave the green light to the draft law that provides for this. If approved, the measure will come into force on May 1.
Ecaterina Gagauz is from Comrat and she receives a pension of 2,900 lei, after she worked for almost half a century. The woman is a widow and says that she does not receive much money, but she does not complain because she lives with her daughter who helps her.
“I started working in 1961, after I found out that at the corn processing factory they give a ton of cobs for three days of work. I have 48 years of contributions. We try to manage with what we have, I am lucky to have a daughter who pays all bills. If it increases by 400 lei, it will be better”, says the pensioner.
Maria and Mihail Vasioglo together receive a pension of 5,500 lei, money that is barely enough for them to pay for bills and buy medicine. Like other pensioners, they hope that the allowance will increase.
“My husband has over 41 years of contributions in his work record. From the money we receive, we pay for gas, water and electricity. What is left over we spend on food and medicine, it is difficult, but we got used to it”, says Maria Vasioglo.
The legislative initiative will support people who receive low pensions due to the low salaries they have had throughout their activity. Among them are those who have worked in education, agriculture, social assistance and other essential sectors of the economy.
“A draft was developed to amend the law on the public pension system, by introducing a new type of pension, the minimum pension for long career. This type of pension is intended for people who at the time of retirement, had a minimum of 40 years of service. For these people, the Government will guarantee a minimum pension of 3300 lei, starting with May 2025”, says Dumitru Pîslaru, Secretary General at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
According to the National Social Insurance House, on November 1, 2024, 30 thousand people were identified who have at least 40 years of work and receive a pension of less than 3300 lei.
