Works on the Vulcănești-Chișinău voltage line in full swing. Recean: We will have independence in the delivery of electricity by this year-end

The construction works of the Vulcănești-Chișinău high-voltage line are 22 percent complete and are expanding to several regions. This week, the works were launched in the Cimișlia district. Moreover, access was provided for the works in the Hincești and Vulcănești districts. During an inspection of the construction site, Prime Minister Dorin Recean requested strict compliance with the deadlines, so that the line would be functional by the end of this year.

Recean said that through this line, the Republic of Moldova will have the opportunity to import electricity from Romania, bypassing the Transnistrian region.

"Today we are dependent on a possible arbitrary decision of those on the left bank of the Nistru, who either out of desperation or at the behest of the Kremlin could interrupt electricity supplies on the right bank. Why? Because the current Isaccea-Vulcănești-Chișinău line passes through the left bank of the Nistru. We are no longer dependent on any external factors when it comes to securing our natural gas. We have this Ungheni - Chișinău pipeline, and by the end of this year we will also have independence in the delivery of electricity," Recean said.

The construction work on the power line began last year and is being carried out in the Gagauz autonomy, the Leova, Cahul and Taraclia districts. The materials and components necessary for the construction were produced and delivered in a volume of 90%. The works are being carried out as part of the Power System Development Project worth 61 million euros, of which about 27 million euros are earmarked for the actual construction of the line. The project is financed by the International Development Association of the World Bank Group.
