Tiraspol removes illegal checkpoints in Moldova’s Security Zone

Tiraspol has removed the checkpoints illegally installed in 2022, citing a fabricated "terrorist threat," according to the Bureau for Reintegration Policies.

Members of the Joint Control Commission reported that military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces confirmed the clearance of major roads, as well as the removal of concrete barriers and related infrastructure at entry and exit points in Moldova’s eastern districts within the Security Zone.

The Joint Military Command’s report on the Security Zone situation stated that no incidents were recorded between February 26 and March 4.

In upcoming meetings, the Commission will decide on resuming normal operations.

Ensuring free movement within the Security Zone remains a priority for Moldova’s delegation in the Joint Control Commission, according to the Bureau for Reintegration Policies.

Chișinău’s delegation has repeatedly called for the removal of all illegal checkpoints within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces' area of responsibility, along with any other obstacles restricting movement in the Security Zone.

One of the conditions set by the Moldovan government for allowing the transit of natural gas to Transnistria was the dismantling of 33 illegal checkpoints installed in 2022, of which 11 remained active before their removal.
