Large-scale sporting event in Chisinau! Authorities signed the agreement
The European Weightlifting Championship, the most important sporting event of the year in the Republic of Moldova, is drawing near. This competition for senior athletes will be hosted by our country for the first time. The Moldovan authorities and representatives from the relevant continental organization signed an official collaboration agreement to this effect.

"It won't enhance the image of the Weightlifting Federation or the Government. The Republic of Moldova is leading this effort. You will have the opportunity to see some of the most talented athletes from around the world. People frequently ask about my expectations, and while I don’t reveal specifics, I can assure you that there will be surprises," stated Antonio Conflitti, president of the European Weightlifting Federation.
Organizing the European Weightlifting Championship for seniors in Chișinău will cost 14 million lei, with nearly half of this amount allocated by the Government.
"This competition is important both for Moldovan sport and for the international image of the country. The participation of our top Moldovan weightlifters will inspire local athletes and spark interest in this sport. Hosting a European event of this scale will position the Republic of Moldova on the map of major sporting events and demonstrate our capacity to organize competitions at the highest level," said Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.
The European Weightlifting Championship is set to take place at Chișinău Arena from April 13 to 21, featuring approximately 300 athletes from 42 countries.
The Republic of Moldova will be represented by the maximum allowed number of athletes: 10 men and 10 women.
