Parliamentary elections set for September 28. CEC says all parties have enough time to prepare

Parliament has set September 28 as the date for early parliamentary elections, and the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is now tasked with drafting the necessary documents. CEC Vice President Pavel Postica stated on Radio Moldova's "Zi de Zi" program that the commission has sufficient time to prepare and is already working with various authorities to prevent any negative influence on the electoral process.
“There is a reasonable amount of time, well over 70 days, which is the minimum period required to set the date of the elections. So both the Central Electoral Commission and all interested parties — voters, competitors, and potential electoral candidates — have more than enough time to assess their prospects and decide what steps to take.”
Announcing the election date does not automatically mark the beginning of the electoral period; this will be established by a CEC decision, Postica explained. Only during the electoral period will the rules, restrictions, duties, and rights for all electoral process participants, including voters, be defined.
Regarding measures to prevent electoral corruption and other violations, Postica stated that the Commission has already held an initial round of discussions with representatives of major state institutions — including the Intelligence and Security Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Police, and the National Bank.
“We’ve set a goal to draft joint action plans to prevent negative influences on the electoral process, or at least to minimize them so they don’t have a decisive impact on the process and the election results. We will soon send these action plans to our partners for review and feedback.”
The Central Electoral Commission is expected to develop a detailed calendar program outlining the specific steps of the election campaign, including the date when candidate nominations will begin. According to Pavel Postica, political parties officially registered with the Public Services Agency, electoral blocs formed during the electoral period, and independent candidates may participate in the elections.
We remind you that the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has set the parliamentary election date for September 28, 2025. The decision was adopted with the votes of 57 MPs during the plenary session on April 17. The document is to be published in the Official Gazette, at which point the decision will officially come into effect. According to the project’s authors, a group of PAS deputies, the election date was chosen to comply with the constitutional requirement to hold elections within three months of the expiration of the current legislature’s mandate, which was validated following the early elections held on July 11, 2021.
