Giurgiulești Port incident: Ship strikes terminal

A ship struck the loading bridge infrastructure at the "Dunăre" grain terminal in the Giurgiulești International Free Port during a maneuver.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 20, around 7:00 PM and was confirmed by Trans-Oil Group. Following the impact, the terminal was temporarily shut down.
The vessel M/V MUSE, chartered by a third-party shipper, caused damage to the loading bridge. Fortunately, no one was injured, neither among the ship's crew nor port personnel.
According to Victor Bîlici, head of the General Directorate of the Naval Agency of the Republic of Moldova and Captain of Giurgiulești Port, overall port activity is not affected. However, the damaged terminal cannot operate pending investigation.
"It depends how quickly a crane can be brought in, how quickly divers arrive, and how quickly everyone can get involved to clear the area and get the terminal operating again. This needs to happen as quickly as possible, as otherwise the costs for the terminal, which is built to make money, will increase," Victor Bîlici told Teleradio-Moldova.
Trans-Oil management is collaborating with port authorities and experts to assess the damage and restore operations as quickly as possible.
The company announced it will provide updates as the situation develops.
