Maia Sandu: Autumn elections will determine if Moldova can join the EU by 2027–2028

The citizens' vote in the parliamentary elections this autumn will be decisive for the future European path of the Republic of Moldova, warns President Maia Sandu. The head of state states that only a "responsible" decision, in favor of political forces with a real commitment to European integration, could pave the way for our country's accession to the EU in 2027-2028.
The head of state stated, during a conference held together with the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, who is on a two-day official visit to Chisinau, that the priority of the authorities is now to maintain the pace of reforms and commitments assumed in the accession process, as it has happened in recent years and months.
"The decision of the citizens this autumn is extremely important. It depends on the citizens whether this path will remain open for the Republic of Moldova, and 2027-2028 will be the term in which the Republic of Moldova can join the EU".
The head of state said that the election in autumn must be "responsible", meaning that citizens should support those political forces that have demonstrated, through deeds and not just through declarations, that they share European values.
"I trust the citizens' decision, because as they said, the EU is peace, the EU is our chance to preserve and strengthen our freedom and democracy, to live with dignity at home. The EU means development and well-being."
