A foreign national was detained at the Otaci border on an international warrant
A 43-year-old Azerbaijani citizen, wanted internationally by the Russian Federation through Interpol, was detained in the Republic of Moldova. He is accused of committing murder and arms trafficking.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, the man was identified by law enforcement at the Otaci border crossing while attempting to cross into Ukraine. He was allegedly involved in an armed conflict between two criminal groups in February 2021, which happened in a café in Shlisselburg, Russian Federation.
During the incident, automatic weapons such as Kalashnikov rifles and handguns were used, as rival Caucasian-style groups clashed over control of territories.
The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility, and extradition procedures are set to begin.
