Chișinău: 4 confirmed measles cases, 7 more under investigation

The municipal authorities in Chisinau confirmed new cases of measles among children. According to Vladimir Bolocan, the head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance, there are 11 suspected cases in total, four of which have already been confirmed through laboratory tests. The results for the remaining seven children are still pending.
Vladimir Bolocan stated that all reported cases of measles involve children who have not been vaccinated or have received only partial vaccinations.
He emphasized the need for increased vigilance in detecting measles and urged parents, educators, and teachers to report any suspicious symptoms in children to prevent further complications. “Together with medical institutions and the Public Health Center, we will implement measures to control and prevent associated infections,” Bolocan mentioned during the weekly City Hall meeting.
Additionally, he reported a rise in illnesses related to acute diarrheal diseases, noting an increase of nearly 20 percent in such cases recently. “As we are in May and seasonal fruits are already available, this directly impacts gastrointestinal health, leading to a rise in acute diarrheal diseases,” he explained.
In light of this situation, parents are advised to wash the fruits and vegetables their children consume and to ensure proper hand hygiene. Bolocan also highlighted the importance of vaccinating children to prevent diseases that can be avoided through vaccination.
