Natural gas from the Black Sea for the Republic of Moldova. Energocom signed a contract with OMV Petrom

The Republic of Moldova has secured a natural gas supply from Romania. The state-owned company Energocom has signed its first long-term purchase contract with OMV Petrom, a significant player in the regional energy market. This agreement, which lasts for three years, outlines the purchase of natural gas extracted from the Neptun Deep project. This project is the largest natural gas exploitation initiative in the Black Sea and is situated in Romania's offshore sector.

Deliveries will be made to the virtual trading point (VTP) in Romania, ensuring a continuous flow of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova.

Neptun Deep has estimated reserves of approximately 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which will help position Romania as the largest natural gas producer in the European Union.

“After Russia reduced gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova in 2021, Energocom demonstrated its ability to source liquefied natural gas from overseas. Now, it is securing supplies from the largest offshore project in the Black Sea, which is about to begin production. Through this long-term contract, we are contributing to the diversification of supply sources and strengthening the country’s energy security,” said the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu.

Over the past year, Energocom covered more than 83% of the Republic of Moldova's total natural gas consumption, establishing itself as a key player in ensuring the country’s energy independence.
