Chișinău basement fire: restaurant blaze prompts evacuation

A fast-food restaurant on Moscova boulevard in Chișinău caught fire on the morning of May 13th. According to IGSU, the fire broke out around 6:48 AM.

Witnesses alerted the 112 Emergency Service after observing dense smoke coming from a basement ventilation duct of the 16-story building.

Five crews of rescuers and firefighters responded at the scene. IGSU personnel urgently evacuated over 30 people, preventing carbon monoxide poisoning. Fortunately, no victims were reported.

The source of the fire was located in a room within the restaurant, and firefighters are working to fully extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations issued a reminder urging administrators of restaurants and other food establishments to carefully monitor the operation of cooking equipment and to periodically check the condition of ventilation ducts, to avoid similar incidents.
