Moldova's European path and Romanian investments are key priorities for Nicușor Dan, expert

The new President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, announced key priorities for enhancing bilateral relations with the Republic of Moldova. These priorities include supporting Moldova's European integration, expanding and strengthening projects in energy and transportation infrastructure, and establishing a fund to guarantee Romanian investments in Moldova. These statements were made during the solemn session of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and Senate during the swearing-in ceremony.
The President of Romania emphasized the significance of enhancing cultural and academic exchanges with the Republic of Moldova. He also pointed out the necessity of reforming certain institutions within Romania that cause challenges in bilateral relations, including customs and the National Authority for Citizenship.
Political Scientist: The Republic of Moldova is not classified as part of the Diaspora by president Dan, but occupies a distinct position
In his inauguration speech, the newly elected president from Bucharest has categorized the Republic of Moldova separately from the Romanian diaspora, said political analyst Anatol Țăranu. In an interview with the show "Zi de zi" on Radio Moldova, he emphasized that this distinction is "important and valuable."
"This is very important. This clear separation of Romanians from the Republic of Moldova, distinct from the diaspora, speaks volumes about Bucharest's policies regarding Romanians in the Republic of Moldova. We should observe how this idea unfolds, including in the practical policies Romania will implement concerning the Republic of Moldova. Such a distinction is extremely important and valuable," declared Țăranu.
The analyst suggested that the Romanian President's proposal to establish a guarantee fund for Romanian investments in the Republic of Moldova could significantly enhance bilateral economic relations. He believes that until now, Bucharest has not fully capitalized on the investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova, and Chisinau has not always been sufficiently receptive.
"The establishment of this investment support fund in the Republic of Moldova could undoubtedly accelerate the influx of Romanian capital into the country. Investments in the Moldovan economy are beneficial for its citizens and would also contribute to the economic strengthening of Moldovan-Romanian relations," noted Anatol Țăranu.
The political scientist also commented on Nicușor Dan's intention to pay his first official visit to Chisinau. According to Țăranu, this attention is warranted for the Republic of Moldova.
"The Romanian voters in the Republic of Moldova gave President Dan the highest percentage of support, and the president's response must be adequate. This means that Romanians in the Republic of Moldova expect an intensification of Moldovan-Romanian relations from the Romanian presidency, not only in the economic sphere but also in all other areas, including Bucharest's influence on identity-building processes in the Moldovan space east of the Prut," states the political commentator.
