EBU Summit starts in Chisinau. TRM – host of the EBU News Contacts Meeting 2025

The annual meeting of journalists from the European public media network, the EBU News Contacts Meeting 2025, began today in Chisinau. The event brings together over 100 representatives from public radio and television stations across 56 member states and associated states of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). This year, for the first time, the meeting is hosted by the "Teleradio-Moldova" Company (TRM) in the Republic of Moldova.

During the event, Vlad Ţurcanu, the Director General of TRM, expressed his gratitude to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for selecting the Republic of Moldova as the host for the meeting. He stated, “We are honored and thankful to the EBU for choosing the Republic of Moldova as the venue for this gathering. This choice is fully justified. In our country, the concept of a free press is not merely abstract, but a value that is deeply embraced by our citizens, and the work of journalists is held in high regard. Solidarity among us as EBU members is a core value that has supported us in the past and must continue to be nurtured in the future. Equally important is sharing best practices and experiences in news journalism. Your presence here confirms that these common goals are not only recognized but actively pursued.”

The first day's agenda includes presentations on the strategic and technical transformations of the Eurovision News Exchange (EVN), sports coverage in relation to Euro 2025 and the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, and a virtual editorial simulation. An editorial panel will address how the EBU editorial staff informs the public on two significant current affairs topics: the war in Ukraine and the US elections.

In the afternoon, a writing workshop will enhance the quality of materials distributed through the EVN. Later in the evening, participants are also invited to visit Cricova, one of the most renowned wineries in the Republic of Moldova.

The summit will continue on Wednesday, May 28, with sessions focused on artificial intelligence, fact-checking, and the future of editorial collaboration within the EBU network.

The European Broadcasting Union is the largest alliance of public media organizations globally, consisting of 113 members from 56 countries. The EBU facilitates the international exchange of news content through the Eurovision News Exchange platform and promotes ethical journalism and collaborative editorial efforts across borders.

Teleradio-Moldova is the national public radio and television institution of the Republic of Moldova and has been a member of the EBU since 1993. TRM broadcasts on Moldova 1, Moldova 2, Radio Moldova, Radio Moldova Youth, and Radio Moldova Music.
