Alexandru Machidon appointed acting Prosecutor General by decree signed by Maia Sandu

Alexandru Machidon was appointed as the acting Prosecutor General. This decree was signed by President Maia Sandu on May 28.

Alexandru Machidon is a prosecutor with extensive experience in management roles within the Republic of Moldova's prosecutor's office. He served as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at both the Criuleni District Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases. Additionally, he held the position of acting chief prosecutor at the Orhei District Prosecutor's Office.

In 2024, Machidon was appointed as the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases on an interim basis. It is important to note that the position of Prosecutor General has been vacant since Ion Munteanu was appointed as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice. According to the law, Machidon will remain in the interim position until a new Prosecutor General is appointed through a competitive process.
