Voted by Parliament // Moldovans in Japan, Australia, South Korea and New Zealand will vote by mail in the fall

Citizens of Moldova living in Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea, and New Zealand will have the option to vote by mail in this autumn's parliamentary elections. Today, Parliament approved a bill in its second reading that expands the list of countries where this alternative voting method is available. This initiative aims to encourage greater participation from citizens living abroad in the electoral process.
A legislative initiative developed by a group of PAS deputies aims to prevent procedural errors and enhance the transparency and security of postal voting. This initiative was motivated by experiences gained during the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum held in 2024, where postal voting was used for the first time.
Last year, Moldovans living in the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland could vote by mail following a law previously adopted by Parliament. The new law, adopted today, expands this framework to include additional countries with significant Moldovan communities.
Additionally, Parliament approved another draft law designed to improve electoral legislation and political party operations. This legislation is based on electoral observers' recommendations and the Constitutional Court's findings concerning deficiencies identified in the electoral process. The bill's authors emphasize that the proposed measures aim to strengthen a fair and predictable electoral process that aligns with international standards.
We remind you that the Republic of Moldova parliamentary elections will take place on September 28. This decision was adopted by 57 deputies during the plenary session on April 17.
