The second round of new local elections is held in four localities in the country on Sunday, June 1. Residents of Boldurești commune, Nisporeni district, Tabani village, Briceni district, Chiperceni commune, Orhei district and Talmaza village, Stefan Vodă district are expected to go to the polls.
As of 6:00 p.m., a total of 4,588 voters participated in the election in 4 villages. This accounts for 33.34 percent of those listed on the electoral rolls, according to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
Additionally, the CEC dismissed rumors that video cameras in the voting booths at polling stations in the Boldurești commune of Nisporeni district could compromise the confidentiality of the voting process.
"Electoral officials, along with police, have thoroughly inspected all voting booths to eliminate any concerns about violations of voter privacy. We assure all voters that these claims are unfounded and are intended solely to discourage people from casting their votes," the CEC stated in a press release.
A total of 13,670 voters are registered on the official electoral lists.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that by 09:00, 789 voters, accounting for 5.77% of those expected at the polling stations, had cast their votes.
Voters who cannot travel to the polling station can request a mobile ballot box to be brought to their homes until 14:00. A medical certificate must accompany this request.
The voting process will conclude at 21:00.
In the local elections held on May 18, 2025, none of the mayoral candidates in these localities received more than half of the valid votes cast.
In the second round of voting, the candidate who receives the highest number of votes will be declared elected. In a tie, the candidate with the most votes from the first round will be considered the winner.
