NBM data: City residents prefer cards, villagers choose cash

Young people and urban residents tend to prefer card payments, while those living in villages usually opt for cash. In the first quarter of this year, there were over 2.2 million active bank cards, which is an increase of 300,000 compared to the same period last year.
The number of salary cards has increased slightly, now totaling 1.3 million. Notably, the volume of bank card payments has surged significantly. In the first three months of this year, there were nearly 68 million transactions.
Conversely, cash withdrawals have remained relatively stable at just over seven million.
Data from the National Bank indicates a substantial rise in the total value of payments. In the first quarter of last year, the value of card payments was 17.7 billion lei, while this year it has increased to 23.5 billion lei, marking an increase of nearly six billion lei.
Additionally, the total amount withdrawn has also grown, reaching almost two billion lei, resulting in a total of over 23 million lei in cash withdrawals.
