Penitentiary No. 13 employee detained after 23-year-old inmate's escape

The police detained another employee from the institution, following the suspension of the director of Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. This individual is accused of aiding a 23-year-old inmate in escaping. The deputy head of the National Penitentiary Administration (ANP) confirmed this to Teleradio-Moldova.

"He is a simple officer among the prison staff. The criminal investigation agency carried out the detention, as there were indications that he may have facilitated the escape," said Alexandru Adam, the deputy head of the National Penitentiary Administration (ANP).

Adam also stated that the whereabouts of the inmate who escaped on the evening of June 5 remain unknown. The ANP, in collaboration with the police, continues its search for her.

"This incident has not occurred at Penitentiary No. 13 for a long time; the last escape was in 2005. We are investigating compliance with the rules and have ordered a service investigation, while the police are also conducting criminal investigation actions," Adam added.

When asked about the five recent prison escapes across the country, the official described it as "an unfortunate combination of factors," noting that each situation is unique.

In light of these events, security measures in all prisons throughout the country were intensified, as announced by Alexandru Adam.

We remind you that a female prisoner escaped from Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau on the afternoon of June 5. She was originally from Ukraine and fled the facility after damaging the bars on the window of an administrative block room where she had been working.
