Air India flight crashes at Ahmedabad airport

An Air India flight crashed Thursday morning at Ahmedabad airport in western India, according to several local television stations.

The aircraft was preparing to depart for Birmingham, aviation sources told Reuters.

According to initial reports, the crash occurred during takeoff. Images broadcast from the scene show aircraft debris engulfed in flames and a dense black smoke cloud rising near the runway.

Over 100 people were on board, according to Indian media. Several were rushed to hospital.

As of yet, no official information has been released regarding possible casualties or the exact causes of the crash. Local authorities have launched an investigation, and emergency teams are on site.
