Chisinau installs first intelligent traffic sensors with EU support

The first intelligent sensors that collect real-time traffic data were installed in Chisinau with financial support from the European Union.
The Traffic Monitoring Center installed the new devices.
According to the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, these sensors record the total number of vehicles passing through intersections, detect their directions of travel, and classify them into categories such as cars, public transport, heavy vehicles, bicycles, and more.
Specialists indicate that this data is essential for developing scenarios to optimize road traffic. This includes adjusting traffic light timings and reorganizing traffic lanes.
The information collected from the road sensors can also help devise measures to reduce traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and improve urban mobility.
The Traffic Monitoring Center was established through the "MOVE IT like Lublin" project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the Lublin City Hall.
