Chișinău–Kyiv: Dialogue on Transnistrian settlement strengthened

Ukraine reaffirmed its strong support for achieving a peaceful resolution to the Transnistrian conflict, within the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Moldova. This statement was made in Chisinau by Ukraine's representative in the Transnistrian settlement process, Ambassador Marko Shevchenko with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian.
Two officials recently exchanged views on the current situation regarding Transnistrian region, reviewing developments in the region over the past few months, according to a government statement. They also discussed the opportunities for reinforcing reintegration policies, particularly in light of the new status of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as candidate countries for EU accession.
Oleg Serebrian, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, and Marko Shevchenko, the Ambassador with Special Missions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, expressed their commitment to enhancing the Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral dialogue and coordination on issues related to Transnistrian region. Their goal is to maintain a positive security environment, effectively address the concerns of residents on both sides of the Nistru, and create the necessary conditions for achieving the strategic objective of the country’s reintegration.
The discussions were also attended by Paun Rohovei, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, who previously served as the Ambassador with Special Missions representing Ukraine in the Transnistrian settlement process.
Marko Shevchenko served as Ukraine's Ambassador to Chisinau from 2019 to 2023.
