"Organized crime puppets": Orhei protests target Premier Recean

Premier Dorin Recean's visit to the Orhei District today was overshadowed by incidents and protests.

Firefighters forced their way into the District Council building, while dozens of people gathered outside the council's headquarters with placards displaying messages critical of the Government. According to the Premier, the protests are organized by groups that "serve the interests of organized crime" and "are attempting to halt the country's development."

This morning, Alexei Lungu, leader of the "Șansă" (Chance) Party, an ally of convicted politician Ilan Șor, shared a video on social media showing rescuers using tools to force open the door of the Orhei District Council headquarters. According to Lungu, the district leadership allegedly did not permit a meeting between the Premier and Orhei mayors to take place in that building.

On the other hand, police officers present at the scene stated that a person with health issues was reportedly inside, prompting the call for rescuers and an ambulance.

While Premier Dorin Recean was discussing development projects with local authorities and decentralized services representatives inside the Orhei District Council, a group of protesters, equipped with placards and brooms, chanted outside the building: "Recean, out of Orhei" or "Orhei against PAS" (Party of Action and Solidarity).

The President of Orhei District, Vasile Adășan, was absent from the event, claiming he was detained en route and taken to the Râșcani sector police station in the capital. According to him, the pretext given was an anonymous 112 call regarding possible possession of prohibited substances. He suspects the true intention was to prevent him from attending the meeting with the Premier.

"While the Government builds roads, aqueducts, and sewage systems, some insist on dragging us back, on hindering our development. They are puppets of organized crime, who do not want to allow our citizens to develop, to build a good life here, at home," stated Premier Dorin Recean, referring to the protest organizers.

According to the head of Government, the visit to Orhei aimed to discuss development projects with representatives of local authorities and decentralized services in the district.
