EU to closely monitor Moldova's autumn elections

The European Union will closely monitor the parliamentary elections set to take place this autumn in the Republic of Moldova. French President Emmanuel Macron made this statement at a press conference following the European Council Summit in Brussels.
The French leader also reconfirmed his support for Moldova's European path and for President Maia Sandu.
"From a political and security standpoint, the Republic of Moldova is on the front lines. And I assure you, especially after what has happened in recent weeks regarding several elections, we will follow the autumn elections with great attention. We fully support President Maia Sandu because she promotes a good agenda for Moldovans," French President Emmanuel Macron declared.
The statements were made at the end of the European Council meeting on June 26, during which the leaders of the 27 member states officially invited the Council of the EU to take the next steps in the Republic of Moldova's accession process by opening negotiation chapters when the conditions are met.
In the adopted conclusions, the Republic of Moldova is commended for the reforms it has implemented and encouraged to continue at the same pace.
