Nicanor Ciochină reappointed as interim mayor by local Council decision

Nicanor Ciochină, who is facing accusations related to a road accident that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old teenager, was reappointed as the interim mayor of the village of Boldurești by a majority of the local council. According to ZDG, the councilors from the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) and the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) voted in favor of Nicanor Ciochină's reappointment.
On Friday, June 27, the Local Council of Boldurești Village addressed the issue of appointing an interim mayor following the Ungheni Court's annulment of the Boldurești Electoral Commission's decision to confirm the results of the second round of local elections held on June 1, 2025. This decision also invalidated the mayoral mandate of Nicanor Ciochină of Boldurești commune, Nisporeni district.
Following a vote by five councilors from the Social Democratic Party of Moldova (PSDE) and two from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), Ciochină was authorized to serve as interim mayor starting June 25 until the appointment of the elected mayor, as stated in the draft resolution. The councilors from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) voted against this measure.
The Ungheni Court's ruling on June 25 partially accepted an application submitted by independent candidate Sergiu Bulicanu. As a result, the Boldurești Electoral Council's validation of the second round of elections was annulled, along with the validation of Nicanor Ciochină's mayoral mandate.
We remind you that Nicanor Ciochină won the elections in Boldurești commune by securing 615 votes, which was 13 votes more than his opponent, Sergiu Bulicanu.
Bulicanu, the independent candidate, requested a recount of the votes shortly after the June 1 election, citing irregularities in the electoral process. The recount revealed a discrepancy between the number of valid votes for the candidates and the total number of valid votes. According to data from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Ciochină received 614 votes, while Bulicanu received 604 votes.
Additionally, the CEC reported that 1,242 voters received ballots, while 1,241 participated in the voting, raising questions about the accuracy of the election process.
Nicanor Ciochină is currently facing serious allegations. He is accused of fatally injuring a 14-year-old child on the evening of February 19, 2024, and fleeing the scene of the incident. He allegedly attempted to conceal evidence related to the accident and evaded criminal prosecution. A doctor from Nisporeni is also under investigation for allegedly assisting Ciochină in hiding the evidence. He is currently being investigated while at large and denies any wrongdoing. Ciochină was previously suspended from office by the Central Electoral Commission.
