Secretary of State: Over 50,000 employees benefit from meal vouchers ranging from 35 to 70 Lei

The process for distributing meal vouchers will be enhanced this year, ensuring that night shift workers also receive daily payments, which range from 35 to 70 lei. This was stated by Cristina Ixari, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, during the "Zi de Zi" program on Radio Moldova. She also mentioned that the vouchers will now be available in electronic format.
"We are discussing this ceiling applied solely for tax purposes. Other companies may offer their employees a higher nominal value, but any amount exceeding the ceiling will be considered taxable income. For 2024, statistics show that employers provided an average meal voucher with a nominal value of 60 lei," she stated.
Cristina Ixari also mentioned that meal vouchers can be granted to all employees who have signed an individual employment contract with their employer.
"Regardless of the sector—public or private—employers must be willing to provide this benefit and have a service contract with an operator that issues meal vouchers. If an employee has multiple jobs, the voucher is only granted at the primary job. We believe that meal vouchers are an excellent tool because they are easy to monitor and serve to reconcile the interests of all parties involved: the state, the employee, and the employer," explained Ixari.
Last year, over 50,000 employees from 800 companies in the Republic of Moldova received meal vouchers.
