Moldova marks first-ever national Father’s Day

National Father's Day is being celebrated for the first time today, June 29, in the Republic of Moldova. Fathers of all ages, along with their families, friends, and colleagues, gathered in Parliament Square for the occasion. The event, titled "Active fathers - equal partners in raising children," featured recreational activities, music, children's games, and interactive moments that emphasized the important role fathers play in family life.

During the event, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Doina Gherman, stated that many fathers in the Republic of Moldova deserve appreciation and recognition.

"Fathers who maintain a close bond with their children and actively engage in their education and upbringing tend to live longer, be happier, work more productively, and enjoy better health. This day is not just a symbolic celebration; it serves as a valuable tool for education and public policies, bringing positive benefits to families and society as a whole," stated Doina Gherman.

Those who gathered at Parliament Square discussed the important role of fathers in the family and the significance of their involvement in their children's lives:

"Today we recognize the crucial role of fathers in families. Fathers must be equally involved in parenting, participating in their children's education and overall well-being. Today serves as a reminder for us to improve in this aspect."

"Fathers often assist us by engaging in our children's activities."

"Being a father is both a beautiful and responsible role. Traditionally, mothers have taken on more parenting duties, while fathers were often busy working to provide for the family. However, a father's involvement is essential in raising children and maintaining family dynamics."

"We must support our wives. I see examples in my country, Moldova, where many men are taking their children to the playground, which shows that positive changes are happening."

This week, the Parliament adopted a resolution to establish National Father's Day, which will be celebrated annually on the last Sunday of June. This holiday aims to recognize and honor the essential role fathers play in their children's lives and the overall well-being of families. Additionally, it serves as an opportunity to promote equal partnership between parents.
