Moldova hosts landmark EU Summit on July 4

Energy security, the €1.9 billion EU-funded Growth Plan for Moldova, and comprehensive European support across various sectors will be the main topics discussed by European leaders and the country's leadership at the EU-Republic of Moldova summit, on Friday, July 4 in Chișinău.

This statement was made by Adrian Băluțel, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Moldova, during the "We and Europe" broadcast on Radio Moldova.

According to Băluțel, the event marks a new stage in Moldova's relationship with the European bloc. This high-level summit also confirms a shared commitment to integration and openness to expanded cooperation.

"Preparing for the summit was, I would say, quite easy because there are numerous topics to address. The openness we see from both the European Union Delegation and our colleagues in Brussels is immense. The technical process of organizing the summit wasn't a burden for us; rather, it was a good opportunity to recap and review everything on our bilateral agenda, to once again highlight the close ties between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, and to send a signal to all state institutions and citizens that we're doing everything in our power to advance on the path of European integration as quickly as possible," said Adrian Băluțel.

The summit symbolizes the strengthening of political and economic relations between Chișinău and Brussels, noted Janis Mazeiks, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova. The official emphasized that the European bloc organizes summits with important partner countries, and Moldova's participation in this format is a recognition of the significant progress it's making towards this aspiration.

"I believe this represents a new reality – that we have high-level shared relations and will have high-level representation from the European Union. For Brussels, I think it's a similar perspective: it's a symbolic event, an opportunity to draw attention to the Republic of Moldova. It's also another opportunity to discuss questions that are important for the Republic of Moldova and for our relationship," stated Janis Mazeiks.

On July 4, 2025, the first Moldova–European Union summit, hosted by President Maia Sandu, will take place at the State Residence in Chișinău. The European Union will be represented by the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

At the end of the summit, European leaders are expected to issue a joint declaration on strengthening both sides' commitment to continuing reforms. According to a press release from the European Council, the European bloc's countries will also reiterate their unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, security, and resilience of the Republic of Moldova, particularly given Russia's ongoing hybrid attacks against our country.
