Moldova hosts landmark EU Summit for accession push

The upcoming first Moldova-European Union Summit in Chișinău on July 4th marks a significant opportunity for advancing the accession process, states Nicolae Ștefănuță, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

In an exclusive interview with Moldova 1 TV, the European official stated that such events help strengthen diplomatic relations and provide an opportunity to resolve differences that could slow down the country's European path.

"It's the perfect chance for diplomacy on home ground. There's no better place to showcase your country than here, at home. When all those European leaders are in Chișinău, they'll feel the kindness of the people, taste their products, and sense their European spirit. So, it's a perfect diplomatic opportunity. Nothing beats a summit held on your home turf; ten thousand meetings in Brussels are no match for one good one in Chișinău," Ștefănuță told Moldova 1.

Referring to the opening of Moldova's EU accession negotiations, Nicolae Ștefănuță expressed his wish for this process to begin as soon as possible.

"I desperately want us to open all three chapters requested by Moldova this year. Once the chapters are open, the floodgates will open, meaning pre-accession funds will start flowing much more abundantly and quickly, and investors will come, because they'll understand that Europe is being built here. So, the message is clear. That's why I'm so eager for the negotiation chapters to open," the Romanian MEP emphasized.

It is worth noting that on Friday, July 4th, the first bilateral Moldova-European Union Summit will take place at the State Residence in Chișinău, a landmark event for advancing the country's European integration process. The meeting is organized under the aegis of President Maia Sandu and confirms the firm commitment of the Chișinău authorities to the objective of joining the European Union.

The summit will be attended by the Republic of Moldova's President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The European Union will be represented by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
