New Paris-Chișinău flight boosts Moldova ties

The first direct flight from Paris Orly to Chișinău, operated by French airline Transavia, the low-cost subsidiary of the Air France-KLM group, launched on July 7.

The ceremony took place at Paris Orly Airport, attended by Corina Călugăru, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France; Benjamin Haddad, Minister Delegate for Europe; and Marie-José Allemand, Member of the National Assembly and President of the France–Republic of Moldova Friendship Group.

Negotiations for the launch of a direct route, operated by the French carrier, started in March 2024, with the decision to launch it being announced in September 2024.

"This direct air link between Paris Orly and Chișinău offers convenience to the many individuals with personal ties to the Republic of Moldova, and also marks a new stage in strengthening our relations. This connection will also contribute to boosting tourist, economic, and cultural exchanges," Benjamin Haddad, Minister Delegate for Europe within the French Government, said at the event.

Corina Călugăru, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France, affirmed that this new air link between Paris Orly and Chișinău signifies an important milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and France.

"We are confident that this direct connection will facilitate frequent travel for our citizens, also contributing to boosting tourist, economic, and cultural exchanges," the diplomat noted.

According to the Moldovan Embassy in Paris, this flight aims to meet the demand of the Moldovan diaspora residing in France and to support the development of tourism in the Republic of Moldova.
