Moldova: Middle schoolers begin supplementary exams

Today, July 8, middle school graduates in Moldova are sitting for their "History of Romanians and Universal History" exam, part of the national supplementary examination session.

According to the schedule set by authorities, the remaining exams are as follows: Mathematics – Wednesday, July 9; Language of Instruction (Romanian or Russian) – Thursday, July 10; and Romanian Language for non-native speakers – Friday, July 11.

Mathematics is expected to draw the largest number of students, 6,761. Today, 1,579 students are taking the History exam. For the Language of Instruction exam, 1,331 students are expected, with 1,115 taking Romanian Language and Literature, and 216 taking Russian Language and Literature. On the final exam day, 997 non-native Romanian speakers will take the Romanian Language test. In total, approximately 7,800 students are registered for the supplementary session, which is taking place at 39 district and municipal examination centers nationwide.

Preliminary results will be posted on July 21 at the examination centers, the same day appeals can be submitted.

Final results will be announced on July 28.

It's worth noting that, according to the main session's final results—published July 2 after appeals were reviewed—approximately 30,000 middle school graduates achieved average scores between 5.92 and 6.43 in their national examinations.

The Ministry of Education and Research also reported at the time that, following the announcement of preliminary results, 9,796 appeals were filed out of 93,532 total grades awarded in the main session, representing 10.47%. After reviewing these appeals, 2,064 grades were increased, accounting for 21.06% of the contested grades and 2.2% of the total grades awarded in the main session of national middle school graduation exams.
