Wildfire erupts in transnistrian village of Chițcani

A large wildfire erupted on Friday, July 11, in the village of Chițcani, in the Transnistrian region.

According to media reports from the left bank of the Dniester River, the fire quickly engulfed a vast area, with flames spreading rapidly up the hillside, intensified by strong winds and dry ground.

Three fire crews from the city of Tighina were immediately dispatched to locate and extinguish the blaze. Initial estimates suggest the fire has already affected over 10 hectares of dry vegetation.

There's a risk the fire could reach a nearby private vineyard, potentially causing significant damage, as reported by the press service of the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tiraspol.

Local authorities have not yet provided any information regarding potential casualties or the cause of the fire.

Firefighters are currently on-site, working to contain the blaze, and residents in the affected area are urged to avoid the perimeter.
