A new seed storage facility is currently under construction at the Bălți branch of the National Seed Research and Production Center. This project, valued at 514,000 euros, is being funded through the "Moldova Orchard" initiative, which is managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The new facility will cover an area of 1,200 square meters and will accommodate seed storage throughout all processing phases. Additionally, the construction will feature a road scale mounted on a reinforced concrete structure to facilitate efficient logistics management.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), the project was initiated in response to the significant deterioration of existing infrastructure, which no longer maintains suitable humidity levels, provides adequate phytosanitary protection, or supports mechanized handling. The completion of construction is expected by early autumn 2025.

By modernizing the infrastructure, the authorities aim to enhance the national capacity for the production and storage of certified seeds that are suited to the pedoclimatic conditions of the Republic of Moldova. Meanwhile, specialists in the institution are working on seed multiplication by employing modern technological methods.
