Romania, Germany boost Moldova support, EU path

Continued support for the Republic of Moldova to prevent its destabilization by Russia, as well as Moldova's European integration, were among the topics discussed by Romanian President Nicușor Dan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the Romanian President's visit to Berlin, according to Digi24.
The German Chancellor stated that Berlin and Bucharest coordinate their views, including regarding the Republic of Moldova. In his opinion, it's crucial at this moment for the Republic of Moldova to draw closer to the European Union and avoid destabilization by Russia.
"We coordinate our views concerning our neighbor, the Republic of Moldova. We are partners in the Platform for Moldova, a platform we initiated together. In these decisive months, we are jointly contributing to ensure the Republic of Moldova isn't destabilized by Russia, and we're working closely to bring the Republic of Moldova increasingly closer to the European Union," Chancellor Merz declared.
According to the cited source, the German Chancellor emphasized that "Europe faces historical challenges."
"We will only succeed in overcoming them through prioritization. Romania and Germany are close partners, including from a security policy perspective for the transatlantic alliance. Your country plays an important role thanks to its strategic position on the eastern flank. For this reason, we intend to unite our forces even more strongly in the armaments industry. We share the same viewpoint regarding how we assess Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, a war which violates international law. We are trying to increase pressure on Russia and support Ukraine to bring Moscow to the negotiating table one day," the German Chancellor said.
Subsequently, Romanian President Nicușor Dan confirmed in a post on X that he had a "very good meeting with the German Federal Chancellor."
"Our signed joint action plan is a clear expression of our political commitment to deepen political dialogue and cooperation, especially in economic areas such as defense, the manufacturing industry, energy, and new technologies. We will continue to coordinate our actions within the EU and NATO and support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, including on their European path. We are grateful for Germany's support regarding our OECD accession. We appreciate the central role that the Romanian community in Germany and the German minority in Romania play in our societies," the Romanian President mentioned.
