“This is Europe” show highlighting European values will tour many localities across the country

A show designed to connect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova with European values and to dispel myths about joining the European Union will be presented in 30 localities across various districts of the country. The premiere has already taken place in Chisinau, where the audience praised the play for its blend of documentary theater and real-life stories from citizens. The performance, titled "This is Europe," is part of the project "I am the EU".

The actors said that they had very little time to stage the show.

“When we started working, we realized there was a lot. Each chapter needed to be unraveled separately, and we had to find a way to translate those chapters to the stage because we can't just recite the text,” says Andrei Porubin, an actor.

“This message is for those who want to understand how it was built and who the people were that laid the foundations of European integration,” adds Victor Nofit, another actor.

Audience members noted that the play is not only moving but also serves as an important opportunity to reflect on the European path of the Republic of Moldova.

“In such a chaotic time filled with fatigue and work, we often don’t have time to stay informed. We are fortunate to have performances like this,” one viewer said.

“It is a message for all citizens: the path we have chosen—particularly our commitment to democratic processes and the referendum to amend the Constitution—must be maintained. We need to spread the values of the European Union, including through the performing arts,” another spectator emphasized.

“I had the privilege of attending the English version, and I really enjoyed the Moldovan version as well. I am excited that this show will reach other regions and engage the general public in discussions about joining the EU,” shared another audience member.

The show "This Is Europe" is inspired by a book of the same name, which discusses the establishment of the European Union in a way that is accessible to the general public.

“Europe is not just a concept; it is not an abstract idea. It was created through the collective human efforts of individuals who later became the founding fathers of the European Union,” said Alina Țurcanu, the director.

The project is supported by the European Endowment for Democracy in Belgium, and admission to the show is free.
