"Romania will continue supporting Moldova's goal of strengthening resilience", Oana Țoiu in Chișinău

Romania has reiterated its strong commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova on its European path. The country will continue to support the strengthening of institutions and addressing current challenges. These statements were made by Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana-Silvia Țoiu, during her official visit to Chișinău on Tuesday, July 22, at the invitation of her Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popșoi.
“Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova as it works to strengthen its resilience. Together, alongside other European partners, we can effectively manage and prevent hybrid attacks,” declared the head of Romanian diplomacy.
The minister emphasised that the two countries are united not only by history and language, but also by shared strategic objectives. “We share the same language, a common history, and traditions. Most importantly, we are united by a shared future within the European Union. We are further connected by an extensive agenda that emphasizes connectivity and the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union.”
Key priorities include energy security, infrastructure development, and increased investment. “We are witnessing significant advancements in our domestic capacity to generate electricity, particularly in renewable energy, which guides us towards a sustainable and safe path,” said Oana Țoiu. She added that “joint projects are progressing very well” and emphasized Romania’s support for “greater involvement of Romanian companies in developing production capacities and fostering joint economic growth.”
Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi noted the importance of the Romanian official’s visit and appreciated the depth of the bilateral relationship, stating, “This reaffirms the deep and truly special bond between our countries.”
Popșoi emphasized that Romania is the Republic of Moldova's main strategic partner, significantly contributing to its institutional transformation and European integration. “Romania's multidimensional support is crucial for the transformation and European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Moldovan minister.
He also mentioned that Romania is “the most important trading partner of the Republic of Moldova and a key investor, with over 1,600 enterprises with Romanian capital active in our country.”
During their discussions, the two ministers addressed the reconstruction of Ukraine within the context of trilateral cooperation involving the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. “We analyzed our future contribution to Ukraine's reconstruction and our intention to establish an economic and logistical corridor, especially for southern Ukraine,” Popșoi said.
Oana-Silvia Țoiu's visit to Chișinău is her first as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania. In addition to her bilateral meeting with Mihai Popșoi, the Romanian official is scheduled to meet with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
