€17M in EU funds for five Moldovan towns

The European Union is investing more than 17 million lei in urban revitalization projects across five towns and municipalities in the Republic of Moldova: Râșcani, Nisporeni, Ceadâr-Lunga, Cimișlia, and Hâncești. These projects are funded through the "EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities" initiative, which is implemented by the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

Historical reconstruction in Râșcani

For the first time in over 50 years, the dam of the reservoir in the city of Râșcani is undergoing reconstruction. The work, which began in April 2025, includes modernizing the water discharge system and reinforcing the structure to prevent flooding and protect residential areas.

“Currently, we have no control over the water level, which poses significant risks to nearby homes and negatively impacts local biodiversity. This project will enable us to manage water resources effectively and provide greater safety for the city’s residents,” said mayor Victor Bogatico.

New sports infrastructure in Cimișlia

The city of Cimișlia is set to benefit from the construction of two multifunctional stadiums for basketball, volleyball, and field tennis. These stadiums will feature accessible stands, designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities. The courts will be open to the entire community, catering to everyone from students to kindergartens and cultural institutions.

According to the town's mayor, Sergiu Andronachi, "We have two men's volleyball teams and two women's volleyball teams that previously only had access to the court in the school gym. With the new outdoor courts, they will be able to hold training sessions and competitions throughout the year."

Improved access to health services in Nisporeni

The project in Nisporeni aims to construct a modern parking lot measuring 3,200 m², which will accommodate 105 vehicles. This parking facility will be located near the District Hospital and the Health Center. Additionally, the surrounding area will be enhanced with landscaped green spaces.

The goal of this investment is to improve traffic flow and reduce the response time for ambulances.

Energy-efficient kindergartens in Hâncești and Ceadâr-Lunga

In the municipality of Hâncești, the “Albinuța” kindergarten has undergone complete rehabilitation. The upgrades include a new roof, thermal insulation, a modern heating system, and a renovated courtyard. This project, which costs over 3.8 million lei, will enhance conditions for 160 children.

“With the start of the new academic year, the 'Albinuța' kindergarten in Hâncești will provide a safer, more comfortable, and more energy-efficient environment,” announced the authorities.

Additionally, a kindergarten in Ceadâr-Lunga is also being renovated for energy efficiency. This includes an insulated building, 30 kW solar panels, and a modernized courtyard.

“These investments significantly enhance the quality of life in our communities, whether it pertains to essential infrastructure, access to healthcare, or modern educational facilities. We are pleased that, with the support of the European Union, we are transforming cities into safer and more welcoming places for citizens,” said Nicolae Soloviov, project manager of “EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities” project.

The five urban localities were selected following a public call for grants organized in 2024 by the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.
