Support program for young women in need: 11 months of social housing and vocational training

Several young women from disadvantaged families now have a safe place to live and the support they need to build a better future. For 11 months, these teenagers will reside in a social apartment managed by the "Diaconia" Mission. In addition to housing, the girls will have the opportunity to learn a trade, develop trusting relationships, and prepare for independent living.
"Here we are at the "Spre Independenta" social apartment, where the 19th generation of teenage girls has recently begun their journey. This program will last for 11 months, during which the girls will learn a profession. In addition to vocational training, they will develop essential life skills alongside our team and social pedagogues, equipping them for future challenges," said Mihaela Belei, project coordinator for Diaconia Mission.
To protect her identity, we will refer to her as Ionela. She is one of the young women benefiting from the "Spre Independenta" project and describes the social apartment as her second home—a safe place where she receives the support she needs.
"Here, I learned how to grow as a teenager, how to communicate with those around me, how to be more open, and discover new things that I didn't know before."
A psychologist is a constant presence in the lives of these young women, providing guidance through counselling sessions and interactive activities.
"This age is both beautiful and challenging in many ways. They need considerable support, encouragement, and guidance to boost their self-confidence and create a bright future," explains Irina Postica, a psychologist at Diaconia Mission.
Every day, the teenagers are accompanied by three social pedagogues who organize various activities to help them forge connections with each other. These activities are vital for building trust and fostering teamwork.
"At the end of the day, we summarize our experiences. The girls speak about the day, express their gratitude, and reflect on what they enjoyed," says Tamara Cucu, a social pedagogue.
To date, 108 teenage girls have benefited from the "Spre Independenta" social apartment project.
