Chișinău leaders mark Constitution Day: “The law that underpins our country, guaranteeing freedom, dignity, and shared values”

The Constitution of the Republic of Moldova guarantees the freedom and dignity of its citizens, emphasizing that the fate of our state should be determined solely by us. On Constitution Day, celebrated annually on July 29, the nation's leadership highlights the importance of this Fundamental Law for democracy, freedom, and our aspiration to join Europe. They encourage citizens to unite around the values enshrined in this Supreme Law.

Maia Sandu: "Everyone’s voice matters"

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, emphasized that the Constitution is the fundamental pillar of the state, ensuring the freedoms and dignity of all citizens.

"Today, we celebrate Constitution Day—the law that forms the foundation of our country and guarantees our freedom and dignity, uniting us through the values that define us: independence, sovereignty, and the shared aspiration to live in peace at home. The Constitution reminds us that the fate of Moldova is decided not by others, but by us, its citizens. This means that everyone’s voice matters," stated the head of state.

Igor Grosu: "By defending the Constitution, we defend the chance for a better life"

The Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, highlighted that the Supreme Law protects social cohesion and the traditional values of the state, calling for unity and equity.

"By defending the Constitution, we defend the possibility of a better life. The fundamental law safeguards the values that unite us and the traditions we cherish, allowing us to live in respect and harmony. The Republic of Moldova exists for and through its citizens. Let us work together to build a united society, where everyone has equal rights and is valued."

Dorin Recean: "Let’s build together a European, prosperous, strong, and sovereign Moldova"

Prime Minister Dorin Recean addressed the role of each citizen in strengthening democracy and upholding the law.

"We honor the Constitution by respecting the law, participating civically, and taking on the responsibility of fulfilling our duties as citizens. Let us remain united, defend our freedom and democracy, and work together to build a European, prosperous, strong, and sovereign Moldova."

Constitution Day in the Republic of Moldova is observed annually on July 29, commemorating the date in 1994 when the Parliament adopted the country's Fundamental Law.
