Recent rains cause damage: destroyed crops, fallen trees, and power outages

Heavy rain and strong winds on the evening of Monday, July 28, caused significant damage in several areas of the country. Trees were uprooted on roadways, and many households were left without electricity, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU).
Rescue and firefighting teams were dispatched to clear fallen trees in the districts of Ungheni, Călărași, Edineț, and Dondușeni.
Meanwhile, electricity suppliers reported that, due to adverse weather conditions, total and partial power outages occurred at around 06:00 AM on Tuesday, July 29, affecting 21 localities in the Taraclia, Briceni, Ocnița, Ungheni, and Gagauzia UTA districts. Specialized teams worked to restore electricity.
A day earlier, on July 27, torrential rains accompanied by hail caused significant damage to wheat fields, orchards, and vegetable plots. Several localities in the Soroca district reported damage from these weather events.


According to data from IGSU, hail caused damage to various agricultural areas:
- In the village of Cureșnița Nouă, 15 hectares of orchards and 6 hectares of vegetable fields were affected.
- In Hristici, 32 hectares of orchards, 10 hectares of corn, and 10 hectares of sunflowers were destroyed.
- In Bulbocii Noi, 31 hectares of sunflowers and 38 hectares of wheat sustained damage.
- In Șolcani, 16 hectares of wheat were impacted.
The district Commission for Exceptional Situations will assess the total amount of material damage.
