Opposition rally: 13 people from Orhei documented by police

Several residents of the Orhei district are under investigation by the police for allegedly receiving payment to participate in an opposition rally organized on July 26. According to the General Inspectorate of Police, 13 individuals were reportedly paid 300 lei each at a local political party's headquarters. Investigators are also searching for the person responsible for distributing the money.

Law enforcement officials announced that they are taking further actions to identify other individuals involved in alleged acts of corruption related to the organization and holding of the rally.

“The contrast between the few hundred lei received and the several thousand lei value of the fine is enormous. No amount of money is worth as much as one’s dignity and personal beliefs,” stated the authorities.

In a previous statement, the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) claimed it had no connection to the individuals who allegedly offered money to the protesters, labelling the accusations as a “political provocation.” The party requested that law enforcement agencies publicly disclose details about the detained individuals and announced the initiation of its own internal investigation.

The rally on July 26 was organized by the Socialist Party, the Communist Party, as well as the “Heart of Moldova” and “Future of Moldova” parties. It took place in front of the “Maria Biesu” National Opera and Ballet Theater in Chisinau.

The police stated that they are investigating several cases in which individuals were allegedly paid to participate in the protest.
