Adrenaline, spectacle, and powerful emotions were in the capital, where the International Skateboarding Championship took place.

Over 50 participants from several countries gathered at Valea Trandafirilor Park in Chisinau to showcase their courage and skill, hoping to impress the judges. The young athletes were motivated to secure top spots here, which could secure their participation in a major championship in the Czech Republic this autumn.

“This is the street category, the Olympic category, which is represented at the Youth Olympic Games. In one minute and 30 seconds, every athlete must show their best tricks,” says Gleb Zaitsev, an organizer.

The championship brought together young people from Romania, Germany, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, as well as from Moldova.

Petra came from Tallinn. The young woman believes that skateboarding should unite teenagers, rather than pit them against each other in tough competition. In her opinion, friendship and mutual support are essential in this urban sport.

“I’m 16 and I love skating. I’m here to have fun. Unfortunately, there aren't many girls competing, but I'm sure it will be fun here anyway,” said Petra Merimaa, a participant from Estonia.

Other participants also enthusiastically took on the challenge.

“This is the hardest trick, and if you land it, you get the most points. I sometimes fall, but I warm up well so I don't get hurt,” admits Patric Iluț, a participant from Romania.

“I came from Germany. I’m 12 years old and I like skating because there are so many moves you can learn; there's no limit to progress. I like it in Moldova because the people here are very friendly,” said Benjamin Schikora, a participant from Germany.

“I've been doing this sport for three years now. I love it; it's very emotional,” added Arina Zaitseva, a participant from Moldova.

Through this competition, the organizers aim to discover and promote new urban sports talents, offering them the chance to climb the international rankings.

This is the second edition of the championship.
