Over 40 firefighter, rescuer interventions after August 6 storms

Rescuers and firefighters from the Republic of Moldova conducted over 40 interventions due to strong winds and heavy rain on August 6. The majority of requests for assistance came from the municipalities of Chisinau, Soroca, and Balti, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU).
No casualties were reported as a result of the severe weather that occurred yesterday.
According to information from the territorial subdivisions of the IGSU, the institution's employees were mobilized to clear fallen trees and remove obstacles blocking the roads.
A significant incident happened in Balti on Visarion Puiu Street, where a tree was uprooted by strong winds and fell onto a gas pipeline. The crew of the Regional Search and Rescue Directorate responded promptly to clear and remove the fallen tree.
Additionally, in Balti on Decebal Street, rescuers were called to dismantle a balcony that was at risk of collapsing.
In the Duşmani locality of the Glodeni district, high winds tore several sheets of slate from the roof of the gymnasium. Firefighters intervened to address this danger.
Local commissions for emergencies will evaluate and assess the material damage caused by these extreme weather events.
