ELECTIONS 2025: Diaspora in 10 countries gets 1 more week to register for mail voting

The registration period for postal voting in the parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025, will end in one week. Eligible Moldovan citizens who will be in the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Japan, South Korea, Australia, or New Zealand on election day must submit their applications to register to vote by mail by August 14, which is the final deadline.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), 1,330 Moldovan citizens have registered to vote by mail in the upcoming autumn elections. The majority of these registrations are from the United States, with approximately 700 people, and from Canada, with 370 people.

"Registration for voting by mail is a mandatory procedure through which voters express their intention to vote abroad using postal or courier services. The purpose of this process is to determine the number of voters opting for this alternative voting method and to compile electoral lists for mail-in voting," states the central electoral authority.

The registration process is conducted online.

Citizens must complete an online form, providing the full postal address where they wish to receive their voting materials by mail, as well as their contact details, including an email address and phone number. Additionally, they need to upload a photo of themselves taken alongside the identity document that confirms their right to vote, which can be a passport (including expired ones) or an ID card of the Republic of Moldova.

It's important to note that in last fall's elections, over 1,300 Moldovans from six countries voted by mail. On May 29, the Parliament decided to expand the list of countries from which Moldovans will be able to vote by mail in the upcoming fall elections.

Parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova are scheduled for September 28, 2025.
